Tough Coat

Due to the very low temperatures across some parts of North America, we're unable to ship Tough Coat during the winter months. In early spring Tough Coat will be available for ordering again.

Maximum Protection

Tough Coat is an incredibly strong, water-based sealant. This is a very popular choice for people that want to seal kitchen cabinets, outdoor furniture, and table tops to make them water-resistant, scratch-resistant, and better able to stand up to heavy wear and tear! As our strongest sealant, it offers maximum protection that will preserve your furniture’s surfaces for years to come.

How does Tough Coat differ from Clear Coat?

Tough Coat offers the highest durability and requires only two coats for maximum protection, whereas Clear Coat will require up to four coats. Tough Coat is VOC-compliant and best suited for kitchen table tops, kitchen cabinets and outdoor furniture. Clear Coat, on the other hand is ultra low VOC and requires less of a learning curve to use. If you are not experienced with applying clear finishes, we suggest Clear Coat because it is more user-friendly than Tough Coat.

If you’d like to use a 100% natural product with light protection, try using Wax or Hemp Oil.

Tough Coat Product Features:

  • Adds extremely durable protection for high-traffic projects such as kitchen cabinets
  • Adds a beautiful satin sheen
  • Water-based and non-yellowing
  • Suitable for exterior projects
  • Eco-friendly and VOC-compliant

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is very important to make sure that you let your last coat of paint dry for at least 24 hours before proceeding with Tough Coat, otherwise you may end up with a streaky finish. If your work space is cold or humid, you’ll want to wait at least 72 hours so your paint coats have plenty of time to dry all the way through.

PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT apply Wax, Hemp Oil, or other oil-based products before applying Tough Coat.

My new go to sealer and chalk paint!

I used to paint furniture to sell in stores, stopped when I had kids and we moved. Just now getting back into it and was shocked to see all the lines of chalk paint......I started again using the chalk paint I used to use and was deeply disappointed. I then tried 2 other lines that the store I sell out of now carries.....yuk!

One day on Instagram Country Chic had an add that showed the cutest dresser in Happy Hour and I loved the color so I took a chance and bought it and haven’t looked back. This paint is so easy to use, goes on like butter, and is very durable. The tough coat gave me a bit of trouble but in contacting the company-who wrote right back to me- I figured it out and now I’m sold on it as well. Hoping to be a retailer sometime in the future as that is how much I love this product line!

Primer and Pain

I used the Primer on the advice of Country Chic because I was painting manufactured wood. The application was easy. The best part was adding the color. It went on dark but it dried to a rich beautiful color. I love the product support and the products.

Good top coat, hard to use

The tough coat was hard for me to use. If you didn't get it really even, it left a thick layer of top coat that was almost brownish in color. I used it on my kitchen cabinets. I like using the CC clear coat. I don't know that I will buy the tough coat again as it's difficult for me to work with. I am an armature painter!

Country Chic Paint

Hi Katie, I'm sorry you found the Tough Coat difficult to use! If you haven't already tried our painting sponges, I highly recommend using them for applying top coats! They make it so much easier to apply in smooth, thin coats.

The name says it all!

I love this, so easy to work with, and great coverage! I've already purchased a bigger container for the next big project!
