Kathy and Karen from The Salvaged Boutique are back again to share their beautiful French side table makeover with us in Vanilla Frosting!
We are so happy to be back with a Blogger Squad post for everyone! We have been busy preparing to open our studio and storefront in Lakewood, Ohio and this hasn’t left much time for painting furniture.
In addition to store renovations we are vendors at The Cleveland Flea in Cleveland, Ohio. This monthly event is an amazing outdoor market filled with creative makers and unique items so it motivates and inspires me to produce at least one or two painted furniture projects.
So for July’s event, I chose to paint this pair of vintage French provincial end tables.
The marble tops and curvy legs really make these tables elegant. But I felt they needed a little freshening up.
So I removed the original hardware and chose Country Chic Paint’s Vanilla Frosting. This ivory color was the perfect to compliment to the peach and creamy white texture of the marble table tops.
I bought new gorgeous glass hardware pulls and I applied two coats of Vanilla Frosting to each table.
I normally just use a sanding block to sand furniture pieces but this time I was short on time and for these tables I felt like the more distressed the better, so I used my electric palm sander to sand the edges and legs of the tables.
I noticed when I applied the paint that some of the original stain on the tables was seeping through. Normally I would panic and spray the pieces with Shellac (this prevents the stain from coming through the paint) but I didn’t do this. I actually liked how the stain gave the tables even more of an aged feel.
To continue with my “French Elegance” theme I used a pretty French themed paper to line the drawers.
This is part of why I love to refurbish furniture, the before and after can be so dramatic and gratifying!
I am happy to say that our "French Elegance" tables were quickly purchased the day we took them to The Cleveland Flea.
