Beachy Embossed Dresser {guest post}

This beautiful, beachy dresser was refinished by Mary from Orphans With MakeUp with a little help from Elegance, Icicle, Cobblestone, Tough Coat, and some Roasted Chestnut embossing plaster. Come find out how she did it!

Hi,

It’s Mary from Orphans With MakeUp back to share my latest transformation. Lately, I’ve been preferring to layer my painted furniture instead of applying one straight color. It just gives a more timeworn look and more authentic to distressed furniture.

Here is what I did:

I stripped, stained and applied Tough Coat on the dresser top.

I then painted a base coat of a mix of Elegance & Icicle with a few drops of Cobblestone.

When that dried I painted a second, watered-down coat of just Icicle. I let the second coat dry and then sanded off in strategic areas to let the first colore show through, and some areas I sanded further to reveal the wood.

The effect is very subtle but you do see slight shade variances.

And you know how much I love using the Embossing Plaster! This dresser was a little plain and so I decided to stencil on some Embossing Plaster on just the top middle portion of the drawer. This little extra touch really makes it unique. I used Roasted Chestnut. After the Embossing Plaster dried, I painted the same two colours as the rest of the dresser and distressed it enough to show the stencil design.

The body of the dresser was sealed with Natural Wax and I replaced the plain wood knobs with new antique silver hardware.

BTW, this was your typical dresser with an attached mirror. I removed the mirror from the harp and hung the mirror separately. This allows more option in placement of the dresser and to me it’s a more updated look.

Beautiful makeover Mary – love the color combinations you used. I just got my first order of embossing plaster and I can’t wait to play with it. Love how you added gorgeous detail using it on this dresser.

Hi Luwana,

The Embossing Plaster can be purchased through one of our Country Chic Paint retailers or in our online shop. We have a tutorial here that you can check out to learn more about the product! Mary purchased the stencil separately.
