Come see how Heidi from Lily Field Furniture gave this mini buffet a glamorous new look in Sunday Tea and Belt Buckle metallic cream!
Good morning Country Chic Readers!
Awhile back I found this awesome mini buffet and refinished it for my own entry way.
It's the perfect size for my kids game storage and works great in an entry. They are hard to come by and client's are always trying to get me to sell mine! I came across another one recently and a sweet client scooped it up fast!
It was a little different in that instead of doors it has one big drawer but still the mini size she wanted.
I noticed right away it was going to take more than the usual prep work to be ready to paint. First of all I was painting a light color over a dark finished piece. Even with chalk paint I always prime if I'm painting light over a dark wood. It saves the headache of bleed through and wasted paint down the road. This particular piece also had some kind of shiny, peeling glossy varnish on it. I started sanding and the finish just started flaking off.
I have never seen this happen and it was quite the headache! It took a LOT of hours to get it all off but I knew the paint wouldn't adhere if I didn't get it all off.
After sanding really well and priming I was ready for paint. This client wanted me to do the same technique I used for the Country Chic Paint Video Tutorial Contest. I used the color Sunday Tea with a metallic cream finish.
After painting one coat of Sunday Tea I went ahead and used Tough Coat to seal the buffet. I wanted to be able to work with the metallic cream and not have it permanently change the color so this was the best way to do that.
After the sealer dried I used a wet brush and applied Country Chic Paint Metallic Cream in Belt Buckle all over the buffet.
I worked in semi-small areas at a time and wiped off as soon as I applied. This left the perfect amount of metallic glaze on the surfaces and in the details of the buffet. Once the glaze dried I used one more coat of Tough Coat to seal everything up and prevent chipping.
Thanks for taking the time to read about this transformation. I hope it inspires you to try out the metallic creams or the BRAND NEW Country Chic Paint glazes!!
