Read on in this blog post to find out how Michele from Shelstring transformed a $2 mirror frame into this fun, family-friendly chalkboard!!
I found this old frame at a yard sale last year. It's rather large and was once a dresser mirror.
My guess is that someone's very bad luck for breaking it brought me some good luck! It cost me next to nothing at $2 (luck #1). What?! SOLD!!
I knew I wanted to make it into a neat chalboard, so I was thrilled when my neighbor had the perfect piece of plywood to fit into it (luck #2). We didn't even have to cut it down one hair (luck #3).
How's that for luck?
At first I didn't know what color to choose, but then I remembered one of my favorite all time colors was under my nose, Country Chic Paint's Luscious Lime (luck #4)!
So I gave it 3 coats of paint, without sanding or primer. I like my projects to have a little "loved" and worn look, so I gave it a little sanding then a good layer of Country Chic's antique wax using their special waxing brush.
If you've never used this, you are in for a treat! The wax applies so smoothly and using the brush makes me think I will never apply it any differently again. It's absoultely AMAZING! After a couple of days, I inserted the chalkboard and hung it up in our entryway.
It's the perfect place to leave messages for my family to see first thing as they come down the stairs. I have yet to not be completely in love with each color I use of Country Chic Paint.
