Michele from Shelstring is joining us today to share her very first Country Chic project using Vanilla Frosting and Liquorice. Check out this blog post she wrote about it to see the full transformation!
I'm so glad you're joining us today here at Country Chic paint! My name is Michele and I blog over at Shelstring. I would love to have you stop by and look around! Today I'm excited to be sharing a project with you that was aching for some love. A couple years ago I bought this adorable drop leaf table at one of my favorite local antique shops.
Though it was a little flawed, it was hard to resist the excellent price the owner offered me for it. I had wanted one for a very long time and was looking for the perfect addition to my little girls room.
I had wanted to try my hand at chalk-based paint, never having experienced it first hand and hearing all sorts of rave revues across the internet. So, I mixed up a color using paint I had on hand and used thin-set to mix some homemade chalk paint. For a first attempt, it turned out okay.
But this year when the children asked me to take it out of their room to accommodate the barbie dream house they got for Christmas, I decided it was time to give it a different look. This one was no longer working for me. *eh-hem*
I was thrilled to give it a fresh coat of Country Chic Paint's French Vanilla. I quickly remembered what fun it was to paint all those spindles the first time (sarcasm intended). After 2 coats and some touch ups, I was loving the fresh look.
As is often the case, I'm not always sure of how it's going to end up looking until I've come to the point of deciding. This piece was begging for some character, so I added some grainsack stripes with Country Chic Paint's Black Licqourice, and completed the look with a transfer I found from The Graphics Fairy.
After some distressing to show a little character of the worn look, I finished it off with 2-3 coats of acrylic varnish. I used the acrylic varnish so that it wouldn't have a yellow tinge to it.
Now this sweet table sits in my retail space waiting for the perfect home. Who knows, if it doesn't sell...it just might have to come back home with me. I'm sure I could find the perfect spot for it!
