Lindsey from Everyday Originals turned a plain, $10 nightstand into a sleek addition to her guest room with Liquorice and gold wax! Read on to see the full transformation.
Hi! I’m Lindsey and I blog at Everyday Originals where my husband and I are tackling the daunting task of updating our 74 year old home - as just the second owners! In between home reno projects you’ll find your fair share of furniture makeovers, home décor and a handful of other DIY related ramblings and projects. I’m psyched to be a part of the 2015 Blogger Squad and can’t wait to bring you fun projects with the amazing Country Chic Paints!
I loved the style of this $10 nightstand but didn’t love the finish and the color! I gave it a more sophisticated makeover using Country Chic’s Liquorice paint and finished it off with a light coat of Gold Wax.
I gave this a good sanding with 120-grit sandpaper, as there was a thick layer of polyurethane on it. Once sanded, I used wood filler to fill in any holes and dents in the wood.
The piece took two coats of Liquorice paint and covered unbelievably well. I let it dry overnight before adding the gold wax. I didn’t want to overpower it with the wax so I added a light layer, buffing with a cloth as I went to lighten it even more. I started with a small amount of wax and added more as I went.
I updated the drawer pull and just like that had an updated, modern sophisticated nightstand for our guest room!
