Rachel from Maison de Pax turned her simple plastic pumpkins into beautiful, vintage inspired fall decor with just a little bit of paint and antiquing wax!
Hi Country Chic Paint fans! It's Rachel again from Maison de Pax, and I'm here to show you how to pretend it's fall. Ok, maybe you don't need to pretend where you are (but let's face it, it's still in the high 80's here it Texas, and it's already October!)...but everyone could use a way to make inexpensive plastic pumpkins look like beautiful, heirloom pumpkins, right?
It's so so simple, and the finished product has just the right waxy sheen of a real heirloom pumpkin.
Start with any color of Country Chic Paint; I used lazy linen, vanilla frosting, elegance, and refreshed. The elegance and refreshed were a little too bold for my liking (on this project, at least), so I mixed each with a touch of vanilla frosting to tone them down some. Use a second coat, if needed (depending on what color the pumpkin starts). Once dry, give them a full coat of clear wax and another of dark.
It's perfect because the Country Chic Paint adheres beautifully, even to plastic. But the paint alone looks too regular, lacking the variations of a real pumpkin.
With the addition of the dark wax, which I just put on randomly...
And then rubbed in until I liked the overall effect...
I think the final product is stunning. I'm still contemplating how to make the stems look more real, but in the meantime, I love my new pumpkins!
I'm Rachel from Maison de Pax, and I am so honored to be a part of the Country Chic Paint blogger squad. At Maison de Pax, we are working to renovate, redecorate, and rejuvenate our 1940 colonial to be a place where peace can be found; feel free to tour our home if you'd like. Our most recent focus has been our attic renovation, but for years I have loved to make over old file cabinets, paint mason jars, and create my own decor on a budget. With Country Chic Paint, I've already created a chippy side table, painted a "sunbleached" look, and gilded a frame... I love the endless possibilities!
