Carissa from Carissa Miss modernized this jewelry box for her daughter with Cherry Blossom and a coat of Gold Wax!
When dealing with antiques, there are usually two kinds of people; those who want to leave it exactly as it is with no changes, those who want to restore it to it's original beauty. I fall into the third category; update it to be usable for me! If it just sits there and I don't like it then it's not doing anything for me. I'm a huge proponent of loving your home as it is and not how you want it to be or how it should be. Kind of like loving your body should be too.
Back to topic, one of my clients had this jewelry box thrust into her possession at a family funeral because no one wanted it but didn't want it in the trash! Thankfully, she saw the potential and gave it to me to make it suitable for her soon-to-be two year old daughter.
I think it's the kind of heirloom that will get so much love. Not just as a young girl, but even into her teenage+ years.
My daughter certainly had no problems filling it with her costume jewelry and play makeup.
I painted it with Country Chic Paint's Cherry Blossom and waxed with gold wax.
I couldn't resist adding a couple personal touches like her daughter's name...
and some more fun gold details.
This piece is now a daily reminder of great-grandma instead of collecting dust in the attic.
I'm Carissa from Carissa Miss. I love all things DIY, especially trying to make my own versions of pricey designer items. Like my DIY farmhouse table, this Ikea RAST hack, or these vertical stripe curtains. I love working with e-design clients to transform a space from blah to wow! Here's a gallery of some of the inspiration boards I've created.
