Tricia from Little Cottage on the Pond is back with this lovely little toy box she updated with some Country Chic pastels!
This piece was so much fun to work on and long overdue! Our oldest daughter is now 22 years old, and she has had this toy box since she was a year old. Since we are moving I felt it was high time to give this old box a makeover - Sara style.
I chose Vanilla Frosting and Cherry Blossom. I added a bit of the custom Tiffany Blue mix I made for her walls when we painted her room. I knew that I wanted to keep the piece from being too bright, so dark wax was going to be part of the process.
I began by painting the entire piece in two coats of Vanilla Frosting. Then I used a fine brush to paint the letters of her name and the A B C in Cherry Blossom. The squares around the letters are painted using the custom mix of Tiffany Blue.
After the piece completely dried, I went back and applied some dark wax, wiping the wax into the piece with a towel as I went. Then it was time to give it a bit of distressing using some 220 grit paper. I focused on sanding the letters and sanding the edges a bit. After a good buffing with a soft cloth I called it finished.
I am so happy that I got around to updating this piece, and Sara loves that her favourite childhood piece fits in with her current style.
