Grey Buffet Restoration {guest post}

This beautiful buffet restoration is the work of Heidi from Lily Field Furniture! She used Cheesecake and Cobblestone to make this piece the perfect addition in a newlywed home.

Recently my sister in law got married to her dream man. It was a gorgeous outdoor wedding and we all got to take part in their special day! It has been so much fun since the wedding watching Amy and Luke get settled in their new place and start making it their home. Not too long after the wedding, Luke's mom contacted me about creating a housewarming present for them. She gave me complete freedom to pick whatever piece I wanted and paint it whatever color I wanted!

I knew they had an empty wall in their dining room and though a buffet would make a great storage solution for them. I found this one on craigslist and knew it would make for a great transformation!

Both Amy and Luke are into the rustic look and so I wanted to create a Restoration Hardware style finish with lots and lots of layering. After some minor prep work I went ahead and sprayed one coat of Country Chic Paint in Cheesecake color. It's the perfect creamy white color and makes for a great base coat. I wanted the hinges to blend in with the paint and so I painted right over those as well.

After the first layer was completely dry, I went over the entire piece with Cobblestone. I did this step by hand and used a dry brush technique. Basically you apply very little color just to the ends of the brush and then brush the direction on the wood grain making sure to not completely cover the first layer of paint. Don't be afraid after this step- it WILL look a little wonky and unfinished!

After this step was dry I still wanted a bit more depth and dimension. I decided to use Country Chic Paints brand new glaze product in smoky quartz and used the same brush as the previous steps to lightly apply another layer.

The glaze added the perfect layer to make this piece look finished and rustic. I absolutely love the outcome and the storage it will provide for Luke and Amy!
