Spring Greenery {guest post}

Mary from Orphans With MakeUp finished this incredible buffet makeover with the help of Sage Advice! Read all about it right here on our blog.

I know many of you have been enjoying beautiful Spring weather for a while, but for us it has not felt like Spring until today.

I’ve been seeing some lovely shades of green in home decor lately and was inspired to paint a piece in green. But these new green shades are not your dark forest greens from the 90’s. These new greens are soft, pleasant greens, like Sage Advice. I am in love with this shade of green. Even if “green” is not your thing, I think you will find Sage Advice most pleasant. In my opinion, it pairs so well with light wood, mixed in with white painted pieces.

This sideboard was just the right piece to try out this color. It is solid pine. Now the seller told me that it dates early 19th century, but not quite sure it is that old but it is still a great solid wood piece.

When I purchased it, it looked like this:

Did you notice the doors?

While I was unscrewing the hinges to get it ready for painting, I noticed that the original owners had turned the doors backwards. Now, why would you want to hide such beautiful detail?

If you want all the details on how I got such a smooth shiny finish, you can read all about it here.

I love to paint the bottoms of drawers.

I think it looks really pretty paired up with white painted pieces.

Yes, it looks like that’s exactly what Mary has done in this case. If you’re looking for some great ways to antique your piece, check out our distressing tutorial and our glaze tutorial for more tips!

Is this just painted and then sanded down to show the wood underneath a bit? I’m about to paint two queen anne end tables and am looking into an antique look
