Karen from The Salvaged Boutique created this fantastic dresser in Backyard Picnic. Read on to find out the fun secrets it has inside!
Hi Everyone! I’m Karen from The Salvaged Boutique. My sister, Kathy, posted her first project, a painted cupcake stand, a few weeks ago. This is my first CCP project and I’m excited to share it!
Once I saw the Country Chic Paint color line, I was immediately drawn to all of the colors but especially Backyard Picnic. I chose to do this tall dresser which we rescued from a curbside on garbage day; it just seemed right for the pretty green color.
Shortly after I decided to paint the dresser in Backyard Picnic, we signed a lease for our own storefront and studio. YAY!!!
Kathy and I have been working out of our homes for over a year so in order to prepare for a move into our storefront, we started organizing the basement. That's when I came across a box of old maps and the light bulb went off in my head. I knew the colors on the maps would be a good match with the paint.
I decided to accent the dresser drawers by applying the maps to the sides and lining each drawer. We first repaired the broken dresser drawer and then I applied two coats of Backyard Picnic to the dresser. I distressed the paint just a bit.
I chose to protect the finish by applying two coats of Country Chic Tough Coat for durability.
I measured the drawers for the map application. I used Mod Podge to apply the maps to the inside and outside sides of the drawers.
My next challenge was figuring out what knobs to use for this project.
I am the first to admit that I am frugal and knobs are expensive. So without a real plan I purchased inexpensive wooden knobs and figured I would think of something. Light bulb goes off again, and I came up with the idea to decoupage the knobs with the maps too!
I cut circles slightly larger than the knob and used Mod Podge to apply them to the knobs. After they dried, I applied clear coat for durability.
This is a functional and fun piece.
I just love when the drawers are open and you can see the maps peeking through.
The knobs bring it all together.
